If a cure has been successfully established, there will be other issues to address such as the cost for the treatment. There will also be revenues in tax and the governments income as they will increase.
Animal rights groups will not stand for such experiments. If anything, these experiments can cause harm to the cats, to the point of being extremely painful, which is in itself unethical.
Although there may be breakthroughs during the experimentations, there is still the question of whether it will work on humans. There's even the unknown factor of whether there would be side effects and if they're safe or not.
